No qurbani in public areas, urges Jama Masjid's Naib Shahi Imam ahead of Eid

In view of the upcoming festival of Eid-ul-Adha, Maulana Syed Shaban Bukhari, the Naib Shahi Imam of Delhi's historic Jama Masjid, has issued a special appeal to the Muslim community. His message focuses on promoting responsible conduct and maintaining harmony during the celebrations.

In his significant message, the Naib Imam urged members of the community to prioritize cleanliness and to strictly avoid performing sacrifices in public areas. He specifically mentioned open spaces, streets, and roads as inappropriate locations for such rituals, emphasizing the importance of civic responsibility.

In his official statement, Maulana Shaban Bukhari underscored that during the days of Eid-ul-Adha, Muslims must remain mindful of a few key responsibilities. These responsibilities are crucial for ensuring that the festivities are observed respectfully and without causing inconvenience to others.

He stressed the importance of ensuring that no act should hurt the sentiments or beliefs of fellow citizens. To uphold this principle, he advised that sacrifices must be conducted only within private premises, such as homes or designated enclosures, rather than on public roads or in open spaces. He further appealed to the community to refrain from photographing or filming the act of sacrifice and strictly advised against uploading such images or videos on social media, highlighting the need for sensitivity. "Islam is a religion of peace. We must demonstrate this through our conduct by ensuring that no one's emotions are harmed," he said.

Maulana Bukhari also reiterated that sacrifice is a vital religious obligation that must be fulfilled by all those capable. He emphasized its immense spiritual significance, stating that it holds no substitute in the faith. This highlights the religious importance of the ritual while guiding its proper execution.

He added that just as festivals like Holi and Diwali are celebrated with dignity across India, Eid-ul-Adha should also be observed with the same level of respect and reverence. This comparison underscores the call for peaceful and considerate celebrations that align with India's diverse cultural fabric.
